One of our favorite bands, over here at RTS, made their National Television debut last week on Conan with a beautiful rendition of “Helicopter” the lead off track from their glorious album Halcyon Digest on 4AD Records.

No Joy are a noise pop duo comprised of guitarist/vocalist Laura Lloyd and Jasamine White-Gluz and hail from Montréal. They recently added two gentlemen to the mix and are now a quartet. The video for their song “Hawaii” really struck us with it’s Sister-era Sonic Youth guitar attack and lovely My Bloody Valentine/Lush vocals. The video was directed by SALAZAR and is a bit dark and disturbing, but we love it. This tune appears on their recently released debut LP, Ghost Blonde, on Mexican Summer.

The debut full-length from Shaun Durkan (Vocals/Bass/Baritone Guitar), Kevin Johnson (Guitar) and Abe Pedroza (Drums), the post-punk trio from San Francisco is full of noise, confusion, apathy & pure bliss. Like the beautiful black & white artwork that accompanies the LP, Sports is stark, primitive and comforting at the same time. You may have heard it before and you may have even lived it, but that’s what is so wonderful about this slab of vinyl. Shards of guitar stab you in the heart like psychocandy and bass lines are simply unknown pleasures. Durkan’s vocals are haunting voices from a faraway world or even a dream that you may have had.
